2025 was undoubtedly the best season of Yareli Acevedo’s career. At the Track Cycling World Championships in Santiago, Chile, she won a historic world title in the points race, becoming the second athlete to reach the top of the podium for her country in this sport and writing her name in gold letters in the history of Mexican sport.

In 2026, she returned to the Peñalolén Velodrome, the place that saw her shine on the world stage, to be part of the Mexican team at the Pan American Track Cycling Championships.

Yesterday, demonstrating her talent and supremacy on the track, she won the elimination race, taking first place and the gold medal. Second place went to Cuba’s Marlies Mejías, and third place went to Chile’s Scarlet Cortés.

“The truth is that I am very happy to return to the velodrome where so many things happened. I am very happy to give this gold medal to Mexico. For me, it is a source of great pride and satisfaction. Now there are many days of competition left, and I have to turn the page as quickly as possible because tomorrow is the Omnium event, and well, I have to rest and recover so that I have good legs for tomorrow,” said world and Pan American champion Yareli Acevedo after the competition.

Another figure who is attracting attention at this event is Trinidad and Tobago cyclist Nicholas Paul. The double world silver medalist and double Pan American champion in Lima 2019 and Santiago 2023 took the gold medal in the traditional Keirin event.

The Trinidadian won with a time of 58.594 and a speed of 0.171 km/hr. Kevin Quintero of Colombia finished second and Nick Wammes of Canada third.

“I feel great about winning the Keirin this year. I mean, it’s been a long road to get here, so it’s a pleasure to come and relax and enjoy the event,” were Paul’s brief words after his victory at the Pan American Cycling Championships.
